Samsung Jong-Ro Building, Hanging Glass Façade

Seoul, Korea

RAFAEL VINOLY ARCHITECTS

Suspended façade of laminated structural glass beams.

The primary elevation is a 50m x 50m suspended glass facade. Horizontal glass beams which also act as shading panels support the insulated glass wall panels against wind load between the main building columns which are spaced at 11m centres. The horizontal beams are supported on pairs of vertical rods at 2m centres which are attached at the top of the wall to a projecting cantilever structure. The technology developed for the Yurakucho Canopy was used to connect the beams.
