PERKINS EASTMAN ARCHITECTS PC

Glass staircase.

Triple laminated glass treads are designed to span on to step profiled glass beams spanning 10m between load bearing laminated glass walls. The treads which are lit from below have a red film integrated into the laminate. The 4.8m high glass walls are fabricated from 4 sheets of 12mm toughened glass and are designed to support the load from the 10m beams which are connected directly to the wall panels.

The iconic red staircase measuring 14m wide x 20m long provides a viewing / resting point in the busy environment of Times Square. Tucked below and enclosed by the staircase and supporting walls is the booth where cut price theatre tickets are sold on the night of the show.
